In association with Christ Church, United Methodist in Denver, the Awakened Mind Institute and noted psychotherapist and teacher Dr. Parker Wilson offer this seminar on the basic tenets of Buddhist psychology, formal mindfulness meditation (Shamatha), and the creation of mental health, compassion, and psychological equanimity.

Detailed and progressive instructions in formal mindfulness meditation (Shamatha) are given throughout the seminar. Additional meditative techniques for the cultivation of compassion (tong len) and psychological equanimity (the equalizing of self and other) are also given. In between meditative practice sessions, Dr. Wilson expounds upon the basic tenets of Buddhist and existential psychology. Discussions and Q&A sessions are included in these recordings. Dr. Wilson is a very dynamic speaker and often includes real-life examples and humor to make his points clearer.

For all remote participants, you will be able to download all the handouts and materials that were physically presented to the participants. Additionally, you will have the luxury of emailing Dr. Wilson your personal questions and comments on an ongoing basis.

Remote participants also have the added advantage of being able to take the teachings and the exercises at their own pace.

Part One : The Universal Sufferings, An Introduction to "Mindfulness" and Settling the Body in Its Natural State (2 hour recording, meditative "homework" given) 

Part Two: No Self, Attachment, and Settling the Speech in Its Natural State (2 hour recording, meditative "homework" given) 

Part Three: Attachment, Eight Mundane Concerns, and Settling the Speech in Its Natural State  (2 hour recording, meditative "homework" given) 

Part Four: Seven Deadly Emotions, Five Destructive Behaviors, Cultivating Compassion and Psychological Equanimity (2 hour recording, final meditative "homework" given)

In addition to his training and experience as a doctor of clinical psychology, Parker Wilson has received extensive, ongoing, and personal training in mindfulness and insight meditation techniques from some of the most eminent Eastern and Western meditators and teachers, including: Dr. B. Alan Wallace, Dr. Marv Treiger, Ani Thubten Chodron, Khen Rinpoche Geshe Dawa, Lama Dagmola Jamyong Sakya, Ani Tenzin Lhamo, Thubten Tulku Rinpoche, and Khen Rinpoche Lobsang Tsephel. Dr. Wilson has also been fortunate enough to receive meditation instructions from both His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn on three occasions.
